PAKISTAN OPENS FIRST LNG TERMINAL

Engro Corporation, and Excelerate Energy, working together with the Government of Pakistan, have inaugurated Pakistan’s first LNG import terminal in Port Qasim. This project uses Excelerate’s floating storage and regasification vessel (FSRU), the Exquisite.

The vessel loaded its first LNG cargo in Ras Laffan, Qatar, before arriving in Port Qasim where the new terminal completed commissioning activities and regasification acceptance test in less than three days.

Located in a channel of the Indus River east of Karachi, the terminal is a result of a fast-track LNG import solution built to alleviate the energy shortage facing the country, and was brought into service 11 months from the start of construction. The facility has the capacity to deliver up to 690 million cu ft. per day of natural gas directly to Sui Southern Gas Company’s natural gas pipeline system.

The LNG Terminal in Port Qasim is the ninth floating regasification terminal developed by Excelerate. This critical infrastructure project in Pakistan exemplifies Excelerate’s partnership approach for the delivery of efficient, reliable, and cost effective floating regasification solutions around the world, the company states.
