KSEW DELIVERS DAMEN-DESIGNED PATROL BOATS

Pakistan Customs has taken delivery of two Damen Stan Patrol 1605 FRP patrol boats from the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KSEW) shipyard. The patrol boats will be used for monitoring and enforcement activities in Pakistan’s territorial waters.

The vessels were built by KSEW with technical and material support from the Damen group. The entire project took just eight months and was completed successfully as a result of a high level of cooperation between the two partners.

Damen supplied prefabricated material kits, along with the hulls, to KSEW. Knowledge transfer was also an integral part of the programme, and for this project KSEW production staff went to Damen Antalya for training in working with FRP by Damen’s experienced trainers. Technicians from Damen Antalya also travelled to Karachi to transfer knowledge during the production and testing phases.

These are the first Damen vessels to be built for Pakistan Customs, although KSEW and Damen have a long history of working together. This has, to date, resulted in the delivery of four Damen Stan Tug 1605 vessels for the Pakistan Navy and two more of the same type to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). In addition a KSEW-built Damen Multi Cat 1908 is also currently operated by KPT.
